DIPLOMA IN SPECIAL EDUCATION - VISUAL IMPAIRMENT - D.ED. (VI)

Eligibility: 10+2 or equivalent from any Board / University with a minimum of 45%.

Total number of Seats: 25 seats per year.

Duration of the Course: 2 years

Course Fees                   : Rs. 20,000.00 per year

Stipend                            : The Centre provides a Stipend of INR 2000.00 per month

Hostel / Boarding Fees: Rs. 2500.00 per month including mess fees.

 

Special Education today!

According to the National Disability Survey, 2011, Meghalaya has one of the highest numbers of children and persons with disabilty. Naturally, there is a high need and demand for Special Educators under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Special Schools, Integrated Education Centres and Inclusive Education. MCE is one of the only training centres in the entire Northeast India to train teachers in special education - D. Ed. (HI) and D.Ed (VI) both.

Lectures, seminars, workshops, activities, Sign Language training, practical demonstration lessons, practice teaching of Blind children and Deaf children, preparation of teaching aids, visit to reputed and model institutions in the country, Braille and other aids/appliances training, routine care of aids for the Visually Impaired, Hearing Impaired. Use of low vision aids, tactile aids and mobility aids in the education of the Blind and hearing Aids, Speech Trainer and Audiometer in the education of the Hearing Impaired. Teaching practice at Marian School for the Blind and Gabriel School for the Deaf

The course is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), New Delhi and IGNOU, Delhi.

How to reach:

Montfort Centre for Education (MCE) is in Tura (Danakgre), Meghalaya. About 250 km from Guwahati. Book Sumo (6:30 a.m and 1.30 p.m) or night bus (8:30 p.m.) from Guwahati (Paltan Bazar) to Tura. A 6 hour drive will get you to the Tura Super Market from where take an auto to MCE. The current fare is Rs.40 to Rs.50 (sharing) and 100/150 (reserve) to reach the Centre. You can also take town bus (Morning to evening) to Danakgre and get down at the gate of Montfort Centre.
